Principal's Message

WelcoPrincipal Portraitme to Applied Technology Center, the home of the Iron Horses. Established in 2011, ATC is a College and Career Pathways high school that integrates an A-G curriculum with four pathways: Culinary, Hospitality, and Event Fundamentals (CHEF), Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE), Public and Legal Services (PALS),  and Health Sciences. We provide a thriving instructional environment through the use of project based learning. Our students collaborate and create authentic projects that promote their career interest.

       Leticia Alvidrez, Principal

ACE will begin an exciting project with the California Coastal Commision involving the replication of approximately 245 ancient Native America artifacts. Some of the original artifacts have been dated back to 7,000 years ago belonging to the local Gabrielino tribes.

Our CHEF students continue to build their culinary skills and annually receive their Force in Training hosted by the California Restaurant Association Foundation. This seminar includes exposure to job readiness skills taught by industry professionals.

Health Sciences newest skill set training is animal CPR. Students are receiving professional training on health care needs for pets. Now that students are trained, the optimal demonstration of knowledge is teaching others. Therefore, this year in collaboration with local Girl Scouts troops, our future health professionals will conduct a STEM camp which will include general first aid care and dog CPR.

PALS has branded Mock Trial competition has a yearly event that welcomes students from all Pathways. Students, with the direction of facilitator coaches and attorneys, study and prepare strategies and arguments for a selected case. Students compete at Stanley Mosk Los Angeles Courthouse for a series of evenings.

In addition to these unique experiences that build school culture and pride, students are engaged academically. Over 20% of the student population attends a college course after school,  offered by our educational partners East Los Angeles College and Rio Hondo College. Furthermore, recent state scores demonstrate double digit increases in both English and Mathematics. ATC boasts a 100% graduation rate and 73% of students achieving CSU/UC eligibility in the 18-19 school year. More than 90% of last year’s graduating class is currently enrolled in a higher learning institution.

We strongly believe in our small learning community that combines project based learning with work based learning opportunities. We are proud of the strides our students are producing and it makes each one of us excited to be a part of their educational journey.

We recognize the success of our students relies on our relationships with parents, the community, and business partners. We look forward and welcome your continued support.
